Episode 144 - Sam Kelly (Athletic Brewing Company)

Episode 144 - Sam Kelly (Athletic Brewing Company)

This week’s featured artist is Sam Kelly. We came to learn of Sam and his design work through the labels he has down for CT’s own Athletic Brewing Co. as well as being a member of the great team at Fair Folk.

We caught up with Sam during Dryuary to talk about the success of the brand, how he created the logo and labels and his journey from ballplayer to designer and a few stops in between. A positive and student of the craft, Sam shares his adventures and experiences that helped him to land where he is today. He shares how his interview at Fairfolk ended up being a late night with a few pints in between, but we won’t want to spoil the whole thing for you.

A laid back and an introspective episode that perfectly ends Dryuary and gives great insight into his designs. Episode 144 fittingly went live on Reggae Friday. Enjoy.

Episode 143 - Megan Penmann (Other Half Brewing Company)

Episode 143 - Megan Penmann (Other Half Brewing Company)

This week’s featured artist is Megan Penmann.

We came to learn of Megan and her extensive work for Other Half Brewing . She is one of the hardest working designers in craft beer hands down, having done more than 500+ labels since teaming up with OH. Her ability to meet their demands and volume is amazing in and of itself, but through a style sheet and setup she is able to consistently deliver unique and creative labels that fans of Other Half love as much as their beer.

Megan is a positive person who through hard work and creativity has supported one of the most sought after brands. Learn about her journey, passions and even her DJ name (we’re on the look out!). To say she is busy would be an understatement and her work is more than just labels which is mind blowing. She’s a truly gift to her craft and we are very lucky to be able to share this one with you and feel that during the time of her interview and the number of beers she is supporting daily that she put herself back 2-3 label deadlines ha.

Episode 142 - Rymie (Rockaway Brewing Company)

Episode 142 - Rymie (Rockaway Brewing Company)

This week’s featured artist is Rymie.

We came to learn of her through the work that she has done for Rockaway Brewing Company as well as the recommendations from two of our previous alumni Earl Holloway and Daniel Birch. Both of them are huge fans and friends of her and her work.

This story is a great one and full of inspiring tales of her passion, belief in herself and murals to name a few. The choices and paths we go down help to shape our story and where we are today and this one is no different. Learn about her process, her taste in music and what she has planned for 2020 - murals!!

The New York beer community is an amazing one and has been so kind to us, showcasing some of the many faces that are doing incredible work is a joy of the project. Excited to see what the new year brings and I am confident that Rymie and her work will be at the forefront of the evolution and growth of the Rockaway brand.

Episode 141 - Nick Wroblewski (Earth Rider Brewery)

Episode 141 - Nick Wroblewski (Earth Rider Brewery)

This week we kick off the decade with artist Nick Wroblewski. Nick is a woodcarver based in Minnesota who we came to learn from his work with Earth Rider Brewery. This is another first for us and we are very excited to share this one with you as we discuss the art of woodcutting and the utilization of techniques and philosophies from East & West. We use the opportunity to ask a lot of introduction to woodcutting questions and Nick does an amazing job humoring me and explaining things in a way that makes you appreciate the beauty of his work and the art.

Stories of how he came to love and hone his craft, how he shares his studio with his children on Friday (one of the most beautiful pictures on his feed that you need to see), love of nature and so much more. A great way to start off the year by learning about something new, sharing a love and passion and feeling the joy in something I knew very little about before speaking with Nick. The beauty of such a delicate and intimate art form that can’t be digitally altered and is not forgiving, we even talk about what he does if he ‘makes a mistake’ - no white-out, no control Z. I loved it and hope you will too.

Happy New Year once again to all of you. A positive and interesting perspective on such a beautiful art form that I feel will be enlightening to you. To the wood crafting community, I apologies for all the elementary questions.

Episode 140 - Phillip Leblanc (Timberyard Brewing Co.)

Episode 140 - Phillip Leblanc (Timberyard Brewing Co.)

This week’s featured artist is Phillip LeBlanc. We came to learn of Phil by fate during our annual summer pilgrimage to Maine. He was live painting a beautiful rainbow snake at Bissell Brothers in Portland, which was our last stop before we headed back home to end our vacation.

Phil was also be a featured artist as part of The Art of Craft Beer: HUBBUB which took place in Bridgton, Maine at All Roads Hub this past September. This make this another first for us here, to interview an artist we have had the opportunity to spend time with and connect with before sitting down for the interview. It makes this more of a celebration and reminiscing over this connection and shared experiences together.

He also has done some label work for Timberyard Brewing Co. too. We talk about his live painting turned into a label, his process and what he hopes to bring to the universe with his works. A great artist and positive force that I know everyone will enjoy hearing from for this episode.

Episode 139 - Ashley Swope (Brooklyn Brewery)

Episode 139 - Ashley Swope (Brooklyn Brewery)

This week’s featured artist is Ashley Swope from Brooklyn Brewery. We connected with Ash and learn how she started drawing with her grandfather, how she landed her dream job, Roller Derby 101 and what we can expect in the future as part of their new limited series.

The labels that @ash_and_ink are making for @brooklynbrewery are truly an exciting new chapter for the iconic brand. They are illustrative and creative and are one of the reasons we wanted to include her and introduce everyone to her work. Her appreciation for art and the support of others is apparent from the get go and throughout the interview. A genuine and positive force that has us excited for the new canvases coming off the line in 2020.
